Hubby once bought whole fresh pineapple in the market (yes! he sometimes does the grocery… lucky me!)
and when he came back he said, “Mom, I bought pineapple. Do you know how to peel it?” and so I said, “Hhhmm… Watch and learn!”
In our almost 5 years of marriage, I believe it’s the first time we bought fresh pineapple and he hasn’t seen me peel one, yet. Recalling the other years of my life prior to my married life, I don’t think I’ve tried peeling one though, so basically what I used was – stock knowledge???
haha!!! I often watch my Lola and Titas do it, so I know I can impress my hubster this time.
My precious pineapple…
Without taking the crown off, I run my knife straight downward until I got all the outer covering removed.
And I took all the so called “eyes” diagonally…
Tadah!!!
I cut it into rings (just like the ones in can) and don’t get confused about the crown, I just put it over the sliced pineapples for decoration… LOL
And because I’ve got fresh pineapples on my hands, I decided to use some for Pininyahang Manok. Just before I make this post, I tried searching online to see if there’s any difference on how others cook their own versions. To my surprise, there really is! And it’s a big difference.
Others put carrots, bell pepper, tomatoes and coconut milk. I just realized, my version is the simplest! LOL… Mine only consists of potatoes and milk, but I’ll still share. We all have different ways of cooking pininyahang manok and this time I believe taste differs too, not just the procedure, but it’s how we learn, right?
INGREDIENTS:
1 lb. chicken breast
1-2 pcs. potatoes
3 slices fresh pineapple
1 chicken Knorr cubes (made in Asia pls…
)
1 tsp. fish sauce
ground pepper
1 cup fresh milk
METHOD:
1. In a skillet, saute onion, garlic and chicken. Season with pepper, Knorr cubes, fish sauce and pineapple. Cook for about 2-3 minutes (when other parts of chicken is used, more cooking time is required).
2. Add in the potatoes and simmer until potatoes are tender.
3. Pour in the milk and cook for 1 more minute. Don’t cover this time. Done!
Haha!!! As easy as pie! LOL… Hubby loves it and Alyssa too. This is the only pininyahang manok I know and tasted my whole life, so I think I will have to try the other versions for a change.

This is my take for this week’s FTF. Come and share your food trip experiences too at Mommy Willa’s Food Trip Friday by clicking the badge.

I love to cook Pininyahang Manok, pero madali akong mag sawa.
