“Sweets” Cake in July

My daughter rarely enjoys shopping for her own clothes, but last week I was surprised at how she insisted to buy the dress she calls “another princess dress” with candies, lollies, and other sweets imprints on it. It will be her birthday dress as well. Actually, since we moved here in London, she rarely have those special occasion dresses. She just wears whatever there is in her closet. Whereas when we’re still in the Philippines, in every special occasion like Christmas and birthdays, she has to have a new dress. But I think it’s better now since she’s learning that she can always use whatever’s already available.

I remembered I showed her the cake I was planning to make for her birthday. I told her, since she’s had character themed parties on all her 5 birthdays, just for a change this year will be different. She’ll be having a “sweets” themed party and this will be the cake I’m going to do for her. And she said, “Oh! Yes mum! It’ll be perfect!”

The original cake is by Rouvelee's Creations

I’m just hoping that come July, I give justice to the original cake which is just so stunningly pretty.

Princess Tiara Cake

Princess Tiara Cake
Alyssa’s classmate, Dana, turned 6 last Saturday and instead of the usual store bought gift I decided to bake a moist chocolate cake. This is an opportunity for me to practice my cake-making/designing skills at the same time, a form of promotion for my soon-to-open cake business. I made a simple princess cake with a tiara as the topper. Boy! It took me 3 days to dry it, but still not perfect since it cracked so a pink and yellow rope came in to the rescue (which was not part of the design concept I had in mind at first), but I guess it’s look better. :)

My little girl was of course excited and very proud. She choose the color theme which was pink, lavender and yellow. I must admit I went crazy over the dots and it was a little bit too much. Still it was good and made the celebrant’s mom and birthday girl very very happy with my first real creation.

Ang yeah, a music from a good home audio speakers must be the perfect company as I do them, but since I only have the cheap speaker where our iPad stands, I guess it still did it’s job pretty well.

Ferrari Cake

Ferrari Cake

My very first attempt to make a 2 tiered cake was for hubby’s 30th simple birthday celebration at home. It was a ferrari themed cake – with red, black and white as the main color – inspired by Andrea’s SweetCakes. I must say he was quite impressed, he doesn’t have much choice does he?

We had the typical pinoy menu like pancit for long life as they say, lechon kawali, camaron rebusado (mostly like shrimp tempura), crispy fried squid rings (calamari), lechon paksiw, sweet ‘n sour fish, plus our good friend Cathy brought some of her yummy homemade puto (it’s like rice cake shaped like an american muffin) and maja blanca. He got really nice gifts from our friends – Jay & Kaye gave him 2 fridge magnets and a Super Dry shoes, and Migs & Lovely gave him office shirt from Gap. Alyssa was thinking of the best gifts for father, so he came up with her own birthday card. Sweet she is! Me? Uhhmm… never mind. I didn’t bother for another surprise.
